How iTest Works
Accelerate testing with advanced techniques
iTest® helps you further accelerate testing by building procedures and session profiles. A procedure is typically a set of commands that can be used in multiple test cases and functions as a reusable building block for tests. The procedure might be a simple set of commands for device setup or commands with analysis. With iTest, you can create procedures once, and then drag and drop them into any test case. Advanced testers often use this technique to speed test development and avoid building the same commands over again.
Similarly, session profiles can also be built once and used multiple times with iTest. Session profiles typically contain all the information to connect to a device, such as IP address, user name, and password. With iTest, you gain single-click access to a device for manual testing, or you can start building a test case simply by dragging and dropping the session profile icon.
If you wanted to build a quick system test with three devices and needed to check their configuration status, you could easily build a session profile for each device. You would just drag and drop each device's session profile into the test. In addition, you could drag and drop for each device the procedure you built for checking the configuration status.
After quickly dragging and dropping six items, you would have the ability to connect to each device and check the configuration. You could then interact with the devices and use the capture mechanism with iTest to finish building your test, or build out your test step by step, dragging and dropping other procedures.
You can also use iTest to manage data with robust parameterization, procedures, and assigned variables. In the previous configuration test example, you could store the "version" number from each procedure and then use that for a comparison analysis later in the test.
